38,806 Years of Time Saved from Incarceration

Participatory Defense Network

Our National Participatory Defense movement is up to 38,806 years of TIME SAVED from incarceration! Communities across the country continue to step up and challenge prosecutors, judges, the entire court system - and save themselves and their loved ones from incarceration. Through persistence, strength, and courage we get charges dropped, stop prison sentences and deportations & keep our communities together. In this video, we highlight some of our hubs across the movement and the work they did during 2023. We appreciate everyone’s love and hard work that allows us to continue turning TIME SERVED into TIME SAVED!

In this years Time Saved video, we highlight three stories. First is Rahsaan from Delaware County, PA who was helped by the Delco Youth Hub eventually get his charges reduced and serve no in-custody time after getting heavily involved in his community, helping others and evenutally becoming an organizer with the Delco Youth Hub.

Second is Brian from the San Diego PILLARS hub. Brian was serving a Life Without the Possibility of Parole (LWOP) sentence in California when he and his community fought for Senate Bill 1437 in California to include LWOP sentences, a portion of people often excluded from any resentencing opportunities in California.

Third is Eladio from the ACJP hub in San Jose. De-Bug met Eladio's mom when he had an opportunity for resentencing and supported his mom, Mama Cecilia, in bringing Eladio home. Eladio was eventually released after 17 years in prison just to be picked up by ICE officers at the prison. He was in a van on its way to deport Eladio to Mexico when his family and De-Bug organizers were able to turn the van around and hault his deportation order eventually leading to his bond hearing and his freedom reunite with his mom and his family after over 17 years of being incarcerated.
